Help & FAQs
Lab grown diamonds
Lab-grown diamonds are diamonds that are created in a laboratory using high-pressure, high-temperature (HPHT) or chemical vapor deposition (CVD) methods. They possess the same physical and optical properties as natural diamonds but are produced through a controlled process rather than forming naturally in the Earth's crust. Lab-grown diamonds offer a more sustainable and ethical alternative to mined diamonds while still providing the beauty and durability of a natural diamond.
Lab-grown diamonds have been recognized as real diamonds for several years now. There are various authoritative bodies and organizations that have acknowledged lab-grown diamonds as genuine, including the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and the International Gemological Institute (IGI). These organizations are renowned globally for their expertise in diamond grading and certification. They provide grading reports and certifications for lab-grown diamonds, affirming their authenticity.
Lab-grown diamonds are made using two main methods: high-pressure, high-temperature (HPHT) and chemical vapor deposition (CVD).
In the HPHT method, a small diamond seed is placed in a chamber and subjected to intense pressure and high temperatures of around 1500 degrees Celsius. This environment allows carbon atoms to attach and form a diamond crystal around the seed.
In the CVD method, a gas mixture containing carbon is introduced into a chamber, where it is heated to create plasma. The carbon atoms in the plasma then begin depositing onto a substrate, layer by layer, to form a diamond crystal.
Both methods mimic the natural conditions under which diamonds are formed in the Earth's crust, but in a much shorter timeframe, typically taking weeks to months. The resulting lab-grown diamonds are then cut, polished, and graded like natural diamonds. The main difference between HPHT and CVD diamonds lies in the synthesis method and their resulting characteristics, such as clarity, color, and cost.
Lab-grown diamonds are not exactly the same as natural diamonds, but they share many similar characteristics. They have the same physical and chemical properties, but slight differences and specialized testing can distinguish between them. The main differences between lab-grown diamonds and natural diamonds are their origin and formation. Can you imagine an ice cube in the refrigerator versus a natural ice block in the Arctic. Despite coming from different origins, they are ultimately the same ice.
Yes, internationally renowned certification institutions such as GIA and IGI support the identification of lab-grown diamonds. Each certified lab-grown diamond, just like a natural diamond, comes with a certificate and a corresponding certificate number for identification purposes.
Yes, the identification criteria for lab-grown diamonds are based on the 4C standards of natural diamonds. The 4C standards include color, clarity, carat weight, and cut. The prices of lab-grown diamonds also vary based on the differing 4C standards of each diamond.
The 4C standards for diamonds are color, clarity, cut, and carat weight. These standards are used to assess and evaluate the quality and value of a diamond. If you would like to learn more about the 4C standards of diamonds, click on "Learning 4C standards" for detailed information.
Certainly, lab-grown diamonds, like natural diamonds, can have a variety of inclusions. However, lab-grown diamonds generally have better quality compared to natural diamonds because they are created in a laboratory. They can have fewer inclusions, higher clarity, and generally better color.
Yes, lab-grown diamonds are considered to be more environmentally friendly compared to natural diamonds. The process of growing diamonds in a laboratory significantly reduces the environmental impact associated with traditional diamond mining, including land and habitat disruption, water and air pollution, and the release of greenhouse gases. Lab-grown diamonds are a sustainable alternative that helps minimize the ecological footprint of the diamond industry.
No, lab-grown diamonds and cubic zirconia are completely different. While cubic zirconia may appear shiny to non-experts, it is merely an imitation of a diamond, whereas lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds. Cubic zirconia is commonly used as a cheap material in fashion accessories. Its brilliance, fire, and hardness cannot compare to diamonds. Additionally, its optimal wear period is only 2-6 months. On the other hand, lab-grown diamonds have the same brilliance, fire, and hardness as natural diamonds. They not only exhibit extreme beauty and sparkle, but they can also maintain these qualities indefinitely. That is why lab-grown diamonds can be used in jewelry, while cubic zirconia is limited to fashion accessories.
No, lab-grown diamonds and moissanite are completely different. Moissanite is one of the imitations of diamonds. Although moissanite has a higher refractive index than diamonds, it does not mean that its appearance is as beautiful as diamonds. Moissanite tends to have a grayish hue overall and lacks the pure transparency of diamonds. While moissanite can also be quite sparkling, its fire appears as larger, slower flashes compared to the smaller, more dynamic flashes of diamonds. Additionally, moissanite has a hardness of 9.25, while diamonds have a hardness of 10. A hardness of 9.25 means that moissanite may gradually wear down with daily wear, whereas diamonds are resistant to scratches and chemical erosion. Diamonds are known to be the most stable and hardest gemstone currently known. Furthermore, in the eyes of professional jewelers, diamonds and moissanite can be quickly distinguished based on their appearances.
If your lab-grown diamond glows in the dark, it is due to the diamond's fluorescence reaction. This fluorescence reaction is not exclusive to lab-grown diamonds; natural diamonds can also exhibit this phenomenon. The fluorescence can typically appear as blue, bluish-purple, blue-green, or even purplish-red colors. There is no need to worry because this is a normal occurrence and does not mean that the diamond you purchased is of poor quality. Interestingly, some customers even prefer to have jewelry made with diamonds that exhibit fluorescence so that the jewelry can glow in nightclubs or other dimly lit environments.

Yes, lab-grown diamonds can be passed down through generations just like natural diamonds. The durability and quality of lab-grown diamonds are comparable to those of natural diamonds, meaning they can withstand the test of time and retain their beauty and value. Whether a diamond is lab-grown or natural, it can be cherished and passed on as a precious heirloom.
Regarding the aspect of diamonds retaining value, it is actually a common misconception. In reality, both natural and lab-grown diamonds under 3 carats are difficult to retain their value for regular consumers. Especially when purchasing diamond jewelry from branded stores, unless it is exceptionally well-designed and crafted, ordinary diamond jewelry tends to have limited value retention, usually fetching only 20-40% of the original purchase price when sold back.
However, let's approach it from a different perspective. If the money you spend on lab-grown diamonds is only 1/3 to 1/6 of what you would spend on natural diamonds, and you can obtain diamonds of better quality, in this case, you would be spending much less. For example, a 1-carat D color VVS1 grade diamond may cost around $6000 for a natural diamond, while a lab-grown diamond only costs $1000, saving you $5000 immediately. If you decide to sell them after wearing them for a year, the natural diamond may sell for $3000, resulting in a loss of $3000, while the lab-grown diamond may sell for $400, resulting in a loss of $600. In this comparison, you can see the cost-effectiveness of lab-grown diamonds. For diamond enthusiasts, lab-grown diamonds are undoubtedly a fantastic choice.
For some jewelry items, especially engagement rings with large carat diamonds, we provide certificates from IGI/GIA/ALGT appraisal institutions. You can check whether a product includes a certificate on the product details page. Other items, such as many designed jewelries from Zaiyou, do not come with diamond grading certificates. However, they undergo strict grading by our team of diamond gemologist. Every diamond jewelry that reaches your hands has been carefully selected and rigorously inspected for quality.

Please visit our Return/Repair/Care Page to check all details.
Some regular stock items can be refunded within 30 days after you receive them, while certain jewelry items, such as customized jewelry and high-end jewelry, are not eligible for refunds. You can see this information in the product parameters section on the product's detail page. For specific details, please click on the Return/Repair/Care Page.
For customized items, we do not support returns unless there is an issue of wrong stock or obvious quality problems. Whether an item is a customized product or not can be seen in the description section on the product's detail page. Please make sure to confirm your size, desired color, and style before placing an order for customized items.
Please follow these three steps for the return process:
1.Contact our customer service and provide a description of the reason for the return. Please ensure that all packaging, labels, and any gifts received with the jewelry are intact. Due to the value of the jewelry, please take photos of the jewelry to confirm that there are no signs of use or damage. Once these are confirmed, we will provide you with the return address.
2.After we provide you with the return address. Please arrange for a pick-up by DHL, and insure the whole value of the product. (please note that we only accept returns via this courier, and we are not responsible for any risks associated with other couriers or without whole-value insurance).
Before returning the jewelry, please ensure that it is properly packaged. Place the jewelry in a secure box with air cushions for added protection, and seal the box with tape. All additional products included with the jewelry should also be returned. If the gifts included with the jewelry are not returned, we will deduct a portion of the gift value from the refund.
3.Upload or email us your return tracking number so that we can track the return shipment. Once we receive the items, our quality inspection team will examine them, and then proceed with the refund or any further negotiations. The refund process will be completed within 7-15 business days after we receive the items (please note that processing may be delayed during statutory holidays).
For the returnable products, yes, we offer free return shipping within 30 days, we request you to insure the whole value of the products from DHL, since we would not take the risks during transportation.
Due to the high cost of jewelry, our quality inspection department will conduct a detailed examination upon receiving your returned item before approving the return. This process typically takes 7-15 days. Please note that it is important for you to contact us before returning the item and take photos of the jewelry you wish to return. Please ensure that the return package is properly packaged. If we discover any damage to the jewelry upon receiving it (whether caused by you or during the transportation process), we will contact you immediately. If the damage is significant, we will retain evidence and may deduct a certain fee or refuse a refund.
Firstly, when you wish to return an item, in order to receive a full refund, please ensure that your product meets the following four requirements: 1. It should not be used, with no signs of wear on the surface, no damage, and the jewelry should be exactly the same as when we shipped it to you (we will capture photos or videos of the product before shipping and send them to you via email, so that you can compare upon receipt). 2. The labels on the jewelry should not be torn or removed. We attach intact labels to the jewelry, and if the labels are torn or removed, it indicates that the product has been used. In such cases, we usually refuse refunds or deduct a 10% jewelry refurbishment fee. 3. The packaging we provided to you, including the packaging box, gift items, jewelry box, etc., should be returned in their original condition. If returned items are not in their original condition, we will deduct the cost of the gift items and packaging box. 4. The returned jewelry should not be lost or damaged during shipping. Please note that the jewelry may be damaged during transportation by the courier, so it is important to package the jewelry securely following the same method as we used for shipping and insure the whole value of the product. As long as you meet all four requirements, package the item properly, and choose DHL as the carrier, we will refund the full amount within 7-15 working days after receiving and inspecting the jewelry. If there are any issues, please check your email regularly as we will contact you.
Due to discrepancies in shipping fees and product prices, we strongly recommend that if you wish to exchange an item, you should apply for a refund of the purchased item within thirty days (please refer to the refund instructions on the return/repair/care page), and place a new order for the desired item. If more than thirty days have passed, the jewelry cannot be returned or exchanged.

If it exceeds thirty days but is within one year, we will also provide free repair services for you. Please note that if the damage is due to user mishandling, we can still provide free repair services within one year, but shipping fees will not be covered. For jewelry repairs exceeding one year, charges will apply. For more details, please refer to the Return/Repair/Care Page.
If the product is in stock and the product detail page indicates that returns and exchanges are allowed, you can cancel your order before it is shipped. However, for custom-made jewelry or products specified as non-refundable or non-exchangeable on the page, you cannot cancel your order before it is shipped.
If you receive the product and find that the size is incorrect and you wish to exchange it, we suggest that if your product is returnable, please return it and then reorder it with correct size. For non-returnable products, you could not return it. Please contact service@zaiyoujewelry.com for more information.

Product Care and Lifetime Warranty
Diamonds are prone to attracting oil and losing their shine over time. In such cases, you can simply clean your diamond jewelry. You can gently brush the surface of the jewelry with a degreasing detergent and a soft brush, rinse it with water, and then dry it with a clean cloth. This will restore the diamond's brightness. Alternatively, you can also use an ultrasonic cleaner with a degreasing detergent. However, please note that this cleaning method should not be used for any gemstones other than diamonds, especially organic gemstones like pearls and mother of pearl. Using chemical cleaners on these gemstones can cause irreversible damage. For the maintenance methods of all gemstones, please refer to the Jewelry Maintenance Guide on our website.
Yes, Zaiyou provides a lifetime warranty service for you. Different products have different free repair periods, and beyond that period, a certain fee may be charged based on the actual situation. For specific details, please click on the Return/Repair/Care Page on our website.
